Elena Gelpi Tomerlin

I was born in Croatia and moved to England in 1990. I studied my A
Levels in Notre Dame R.C School in Plymouth, and that led me
Wolverhampton in 2004.

My original passion for art was sparked by the work of the German
Expressionists, artists such as Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and
Klimt. This link can be seen clearly in my earlier work.

I have been specifically working on the themes of family this past
year, in particular the issues surrounding the rise of divorce and
separation in these modern times.
My work is exploring all sides of these issues, the strenght in the
remaining family members, and also the absense and departure of the
others. My work is quite varied although I tend to prefer working in
a more realist and figurative way.
